About the event

Traces of Humanity is the second collaboration between Gibraltar Cultural Services and Lloyd’s Art Group and an inspiring celebration of artistic and scientific inter-connection.

Across two interconnected exhibitions at The Margate School of Art, curated by Philippa Beale, international artists, Lloyd’s Art

Group and artists from Gibraltar, explore ideas surrounding the traces left by human beings - inspired by the Gorham Caves Complex, Gibraltar, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since January 2015.

Situated on the south east side of The Rock, the caves provide evidence of 100,000 years of Neanderthal occupation and are of major significance in understanding the global story of human evolution. The theme also pays tribute to the archaeologists and scientists whose research has provided valuable insights into that evolutionary journey.
