On the afternoon of Friday 26 April, Rise Up Clean Up is hosting a facilitated Walkshop to some of the incredible murals created as part of the Rise Up Residency, and an early evening film screening of four fantastic films.

Join us for one or both of these free events.

Rise Up Clean Up is thrilled to organise these events as part of the international Urban Art Laboratories project, connecting different art and ecology initiatives around the world. This project is part of the Nature of Cities Festival, an international gathering bringing together people from various fields including the arts to imagine better cities for people and nature.

Walkshop: 3:45 to 6pm

At 3:45pm, we will gather at The Margate School and, after a welcome and introduction from your facilitator Rachel, set off at 4pm for an accessible walk to some selected murals. At each mural, Rachel will offer some information and prompts for creative responses to the murals and the issues they raise. Walking together, participants are invited to have conversations and to connect. Bring a pen and paper for writing, sketching materials, cameras or any devices to create your responses. The walkshop will run until 5:30, when we will return to The Margate School for refreshments and to debrief and share reflections.

No artistic or writing experience is required – this is a personal, non-judgmental walkshop. You may want to share some of your creativity in the debrief session but there will be no pressure to.

This Margate initiative will be part of a Nature of Cities Festival programme that connects direct actions with artistic contributions, bringing local communities together to co-create and engage with art and nature. Margate will be connected to cities like Daejeon (Korea), Paris (France), São Paulo (Brazil), Wellington (Aotearoa, New Zealand), Bogota (Columbia), Izmir (Turkiye), and Hsinchu (Taiwan).

These events are free but please register via the links above.

Those joining the walkshop, please bring water (in reusable bottles! Which you can refill at the new water fountain), wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather. The walk will be an easy pace, covering less than 4km, on wide footpaths. 

When booking there will be an opportunity to let Rise Up Clean Up know of any particular accessibility issues so that we can adapt if necessary.
