Ogoni Land in Nigeria, is one of the most polluted land in the world, drenched in oil. We dig for the 'black gold' to give us freedom and comfort but can we liberate us from the abyss it has created. We need to dig to get to the roots, liberation needs to be rooted, it implies radical change, to be radical means to go to the root of things. But where are those roots. Is it as simple as to wash away the violence, subjection and suffering when bathing in oil?
Ojo Taiye is an emerging artist and a dreamer. As someone who believes in the power of language, he is always investigating the imaginative potential of language to capture the minutiae of daily life and the natural world. Alongside working for a rural hospital, Taiye is a freelance writer for multiple magazines and organizations. His poetry muses on power struggles, race and culture, the damage of capitalism, and the tender fragility of hope.
