A huge congratulations to the The Margate School's graduates of 2024
On Saturday 26th October, The Margate School celebrated the 2024 cohort of Visual Communication and Design students at their graduation ceremony, hosted at the Turner Contemporary.
As per tradition, the day began with a procession from The Margate School, that followed the seafront leading to the Turner Contemporary, where friends, family members and students congregated for the ceremony.
The Margate School’s own Trustee, Denise Roudette, opened the ceremony acknowledging the commitment and dedication provided by students. This was further consolidated by the support of the Mayor of Margate, Cllr Jack Packman, who praised the ongoing work at The Margate School. Multi-disciplinary artist and visionary Laura Nyahuye, founder of Maokwo – a community arts organisation, emotively guided the ceremony through powerful anecdotes of her childhood, reminding us all how important art is in relation to community.
Last but certainly not least, sculptor Peter Fillingham closed the graduation proceedings by paying homage to artists such as Brâncuși and dear friend Derek Jarman. Peter highlighted the power that comes with sharing your artistic practice, space and knowledge with others – linking this to the work that takes place at The Margate School.
We would like to extend our thanks to our generous sponsor, Silverhand Estate, who supported The Margate School with Silver Reign, Charmat of England, to toast and congratulate the students on their graduation and opening show, You Me Us.
