Apply for a place on our Young People's Advisory Board

Thank you for applying to participate in the School's Young People's Advisory Group (YPAG). We are looking for eight young people (aged 18 to 21) to help guide the direction of the School. This will include:

- Sharing ideas and feedback on exhibitions and events, helping us to take art to new and broader audiences
- Helping to programme and evaluate our courses and workshops by telling us what you want to learn
- Meeting studio-holders, students and staff and learning about their roles and art practices
- Opportunities to work with curators, artists, tutors and technicians

This is a voluntary role. The YPAG will meet every three months, with occasional other meetings where necessary, including opportunities to meet the board, funders and our Advisory Group of experienced artists, curators and community leaders if you wish. The YPAG will be convened by the School's Artistic Directors, Ruyin and Ben.

You make your answers as long or as short as you like, including using bullet points. We'd welcome responses using audio or video too -- these can be uploaded or sent to info@themargateschool.com

We welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and especially encourage applications from underrepresented communities.

No prior experience is necessary - just enthusiasm and ideas.

What happens next

Your application will be reviewed after the deadline of 17.00 on Sunday 21 June 2026 by the School's two Artistic Directors.

We want to include as wide a range of experience as possible in our YPAG. This means that if it is over-subscribed we will prioritise ensuring creating a diverse group of different voices, and making sure that young people who may not have access to these opportunities regularly have a chance to participate.

After an initial screening we will invite shortlisted applicants for a short, informal chat with Ben, Ruyin and a third person, likely a member of Mast's Board or our Masters programme Lead. This won't be a formal interview, just a chance to get to know you and explore your ideas in more detail.

If at any stage you are not successful, we will let you know as soon as possible, and ask for your permission to keep your details and notify you of other opportunities in future.

Good luck, and thanks again for your interest in the School!
