The first module for Design Society Nature is a grounding in the principles and practices of Visual Language and we are very pleased to welcome Jim Sutherland of Studio Sutherl& back to The Margate School to share his knowledge and expertise developed during a prestigious career working on rebranding clients as varied as the Natural History Museum, Startrite and Prostrate Cancer UK, as well as designing over 50 stamps for Royal Mail. His award roster is outstanding and includes 97 pencils at D&AD, for whom he has also judged nine times, including as Foreman of the Branding Jury in 2023.

Jim set up Studio Sutherl& in London in 2014 and spoke engagingly at Margate Festival of Design in 2023 about his collaborative project with photographer Aidan McCarthy. This Guest Lecture will explore the relationship of design in flags, games, symbols, shapes, observation and play.
