Session 1: Join us on Friday 20 October from 2 to 4pm in the fascinating acoustic environment of Ramsgate. Bring your own item that makes an interesting sound to record in a variety of locations.

Session 2, on Friday 27 October from 10am to 1pm, will be editing of the recorded audio to create narratives in sound.

Both workshops will be with Sound Arts course tutor Dr Ed Kelly and accompanied by Cam Griffiths on 20 October.

Dr Edward Kelly has a BSc in Electronic Music with Electronics from the University of Hertfordshire, and a PhD in Composition from the University of East Anglia. He has taught BA Digital Media Design at the London College of Communication for 7 years, and MA Fine Art (Digital) at Camberwell College of Arts for 11 years. He is a contributor to the Pure Data computer music system, and an expert in recording and editing audio and music. His work also encompasses creative coding and physical computing, for interactive graphics, video and sound. He developed the audio engine for the Ninja Jamm iPhone and Android app, for Ninja Tune records. He is involved in research projects including live music notation, and live segmentation and re-organisation of audio segments in real time. His research has been published at a number of international conferences and he has played concerts in France, Germany, Canada, Brazil, the USA and the UK.

Cam Griffiths is highly skilled across many instruments with the advantage of perfect pitch, Cam creates music for screen, stage, radio, and installation; carefully composing, performing, and producing every aspect of the score. His sound work for film (location and post-production) has been exhibited at over 25 international festivals, including Fantasia International Film Festival, Fantasporto, Underwire, and at the British Film Institute. His work has also featured on RTÉ, Ireland’s national broadcaster, and the BBC. Cam has worked on projects for a wide range of commerical clients including YouTube, Citibank, Thomas Pink Shirtmakers and NEUW Jeans. His sound art and composition draw on themes of hauntology, artificial memory and liminal places, and what he imagines 1970s graphic design would sound like. It obsessively features analogue sources and processing, public information films, radio sources, and his own field recordings.
